Jackson-Palmer commonplace books collection, 1830-1895.

These three volumes contain miscellaneous writings of Francis Jackson, a Boston reformer, including copies of some of his letters, municipal reports, memoirs reflecting his interest in abolition and temperance, and excerpts from the diary of his brother, William, a civic leader and businessman who was active in the underground railroad. Two of the volumes were subsequently used by his daughter for miscellaneous jottings and as a notebook for the lectures she attended at Thompson College Free Medical Lectures to Women, 1872-1874.

Francis Jackson was a Boston abolitionist, author, and civic leader who served as President of the Anti-Slavery Society. In 1848, his daughter, Harriette M. Jackson, married Philadelphia Quaker Charles Palmer, who was the grandson of prominent Quaker minister, Isaac T. Hopper. Harriet Martineau Jackson, daughter of Francis Jackson (1789-1861), Boston abolitionist, was born in 1825. She married Charles Palmer, a member of Philadelphia Monthly Meeting of Friends (Hicksite) in 1848, and became a member of New York Monthly Meeting in 1905. She died in 1912.
